Tendering & Tender Clarifications

When we get contacted by a client to quote or tender on a project,  we prefer to do an on site inspection to get a clear indication of what the needs for this specific site might entail.

Taking this into consideration, a quote is done. On quote acceptance,  the project planning can begin.  The allocation of suitable equipment and personnel is done for the specific site circumstances.

We get into contact with MHS and OHS to make sure all their specific requirements are met. Site Safety Files is drawn up as per site requirements.

If necessary, negotiations with Authorities such as  (Transnet, N3TC, N1TS, Eskom, Rand Water and other water authorities,  the SAPS Explosives Unit,  Department of Labour, Department of Rural and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Minerals & Energy) is done.

Blast Designs

Drill Pattern Layouts & Surveying

As soon as a contract is awarded to us,  we meet with the Client on site.  Here we identify the starting positions of the work to be done and the Client supply us with a site plan in electronic format or in hard copy.

Drill patterns is marked out according to the designs and calculations that was done in the tender phase.  After the patterns is laid out, we make use of a trimble gps survey system to survey the position of each marked hole.  This data is later used for the calculation of volumes, blast fire timing, (with electronic initiation) and is sent to the Client in electronic format for verification purposes with their surveyors or any other purpose they may wish to use it for.

We offer to our clients other services on top of the above such as the following;

Rock analysis, crack surveying, bore hole tracking, wire line as well as pre-blast,  blast simulations.

Drilling & Drill quality control

The site supervisors complete a daily drill log, marking out all drilled holes, as well as their position on the block and each hole’s depth. The drill bits are checked daily to ensure that

Drilling holes: record keeping of each hole, mechanical maintenance of drills, sharpening of drill bits.

Explosives Charging, Timing & Blasting

Ordering explosives, on-site delivery, explosives control and record keeping.

Blast hole priming.

Charging of drilled holes of holes primary explosives.

Product control by weighing of explosives making use of test cups.

Sleeve holes that has cracks in the formation and may cause explosives to run away..

Tie up by connecting shock tubes or connect electrical wire to electronic detonators.

Programming of detonators.

Set up seismographs and cameras.

Handle pre-blast protocol.

Initiate the blast.

Safe declaration of the blast after completion of the blast.

Do blast reports and send to customers.

Secondary rock breaking

Redesigning the blast design should it be necessary to meet site specific needs.

our services

We own all the equipment needed to get the job done. This means the client saves, time and energy. Our equipment includes electronic shot firing systems (Axxis and Intelie shot), conventional shot exploders, explosives magazines and registered explosives transport vehicles, lathe and high speed cameras and all the necessary blast design software.  DPT Drill & Blast have qualified plant technicians and do all services and are capable to handle all major repairs on drill rig components (drifters, engines, compressors, hydraulic pumps and structural work).  This is made possible by having our own in-house mechanical engineering department equipped with lathes, milling machines and specialised tools.
